Using the Google AdSense Alt-Ads pages
|
Don't have Google AdSense? If you are running Google Adsense ads on your website(s), and you are not using an alternative url in the AdSense for content setup, you are missing out on a big revenue opportunity. Google AdSense ads are regional and different ads appear in different parts of the world. If there is not a relevant ad available to be shown for that location, a public service ad will be shown and you are throwing away advertising space. You do not get credit for clicks on your public service ads. By using alternate ads, your desired ad campaign is guaranteed to be seen. Do not use Google ads as alternate Google ads or any ad content that violates Google's Programs and Policies. To download the complete 24 page alt-ad folder CLICK HERE (only about 60kb) You will notice that that during your Google AdSense (text and image) ad setup, you will choose the size and colors of your ads. At the bottom of the page (under "more options") you will also have a choice of what to display if no relevant ads are available. By default, "show public service ads" is selected. Choose "Show non-Google ads from another URL". A box will open prompting you to enter a url of your desired alternative ad. The problem arises that most other advertising campaigns we are running require a script and cannot be entered in the url box. That is why I created the Alt-Ads folder and pages. It consists of 24 pages; each page contains a specific size ad to replace a Google ad when a relevant ad is not necessary. It is easily implemented by uploading the entire folder to your website. (upload folder to the root directory, not inside another folder) Some of the ad blocks are broken up into 2, 3 of 4 cells so you can choose which type of replacement ad will best suit you. They are all designed to be used with text, but you may enter your affiliate code in the proper size cells. You must customize the content to suit your needs. REMEMBER not to add more text or image size than the cell can hold. If you alter the size of the cells, they will not show effectively as replacement ads. IMPORTANT: if you enter an alternate ad that contains a banner image that is the same size as the table, change the cell padding to "0" and the cell spacing to "0" To change the border color, change bgcolor="#000080 in the following line in the script to your desired color border: <table border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="728" bgcolor="#000080" height="90">. You will only have to change one line in the script. To change the color of the interior of the cells, change bgcolor="#ECE9D8 in the following line in the script to your desired cell color: <td valign="top" align="center" bgcolor="#ECE9D8" width="120" height="150"> </td>. You will have to repeat that step for as many cells as there are in the table. Only change the 6 digit color code. See some colors HERE. When you are done creating your ad cells, make sure to save and publish your work. Each alternate ad size will have it's own page and url. Make sure to use the right size ad page when you enter the url in the Google alternate ad creation. For example; the url for the alternate ad on a 728x90 Google ad would be http://yourwebsite.com/alt-ads/728x90.html. Why Are They Free? You may ask why am I giving this content away? On every page, there is a link back to my website http://free-templates.org. (This will never be seen by the public, as only your ad section will display) Also, in the head section of the pages, I take credit for the creation in the meta tags. These links will help with my website's popularity and rank by Google, Alexa and other indexing. There is absolutely no adware, spyware or anything malicious in this folder on any pages. PLEASE do not remove my link, as it will violate the terms of usage. I am also counting on word of mouth traffic on blogs and forums to spread the word about my free templates and web pages.
Other Uses For These Pages; I-Frames You can also use these alternate ads pages with I-frames. An I-frame uses a portion of one webpage inside another webpage. You can put the same I-frame script on several pages and to change the content on all the pages, you need only change the original page that the others are linking to. It uses a short bit of script as seen in the example below: <iframe height="79" width="440" frameborder="0" border="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" src="http://jimmohr.com/iframebanner.html"></iframe> Just change the height and width to the size of your alternate ad, and insert your URL as the src. This comes in handy if you are giving out the script to your visitors, and you don't want your visitors to be able to alter the actual content (preserving your links, etc).
